SOLID WASTE

The Solid Waste Division of the Public Services Department is responsible for collecting trash, recycling, and yard debris.

The Village does not collect refuse on Village Observed Holidays. Holiday collection make-up days for household trash or recycling will be on Wednesdays of the week of the holiday.  If a holiday falls on a Wednesday, yard debris will be collected the next working day.

There are two schedules, one for homes EAST OF HWY 5 and one for homes WEST OF HWY 5, so be sure to get the right schedule based on your home’s location.  Questions may be directed to the Village’s Public Services Office at 295-5021.

 Trash

All household refuse is collected curbside once a week. Household refuse is collected at homes on the east side of Highway 5 on Monday, while household refuse is collected west of Highway 5 on Tuesday. Click here for map to determine whether you are East or West of Highway 5. To ensure your refuse is collected, it is important that residents adhere to the Pickup Requirements. For residents who are unable to get their refuse curbside, the Village offers Assisted Pickup.  The Village prepares a  brochure highlighting the pickup schedule and the rules and regulations for household refuse collection.  Certain items are banned from disposal in the landfills.  Please check the list to ensure you comply with State law.

The Village is currently implementing an Automated Arm Trash Collection System to pick up household refuse throughout the Village.

 Recycling

Recycling is collected curbside once a week. Recycling is collected at homes on the east side of Highway 5 on Thursday, while household refuse is collected west of Highway 5 on Friday. North Carolina law changed on October 1, 2009  making it illegal to deposit plastic bottles in the landfill.  Please read here for more information.

Yard Debris
