VEHICLE SECURITY

In recent weeks, the Police Department has had reports of vehicles, parked at various businesses across town, being entered and items stolen from seats and open consoles. The majority of these vehicles were unlocked, so the thief had only to open the door. In a few of the reports, windows were broken to gain entry. We would like to encourage motorists to lock their vehicles, and to lock valuables, such as purses, cell phones, cameras, etc. out of sight, in either the dash compartment or the trunk. This is a good idea even when vehicles are parked in driveways. These are crimes of opportunity and if nothing of value is visible, thieves are far less likely to attempt to enter a vehicle.
