WATER RESTRICTIONS AND DAILY WATER USAGE CHARTS

Moore County Public Utilities revised our water restrictions on September 19, 2008 to Stage 1 Voluntary water restrictions for the water system serving Pinehurst residents.  For specific recommendations please read the Stage 1 notification above.  Note that on April 24, 2009 the Stage 1 consumption goal of 2,400,000 was changed to 3,200,000.  On November 1, 2009 our Stage 1 consumption goal has been raised to 3,680,000.  The Stage 2 Severe Mandatory conservation was successful at reaching our goal of a 30% reduction in consumption since April 1, 2008.  Moore County is presently normal in year-to-date rainfall.  Our underground water measurements indicate the Middendorf Aquifer is stable and recovering.

The US Drought monitor of North Carolina now has Moore County in the “no” drought classification as of September 9, 2008.  The latest US Seasonal Drought Outlook from NOAA is also indicating improvement between now and November 2008 in drought tendency.

Based on this data Moore County Public Utilities is returning to Stage 1 Voluntary conservation and requests consumers in Pinehurst to reduce water usage by 20%.

If consumption increases above target levels set for Stage 1 Voluntary water restrictions, continuation of normal rainfall and subsequent appropriate aquifer recharging do not occur, it will be necessary to return to Stage 2 Moderate Mandatory water restrictions.

In a continued effort to keep our residents informed regarding the water shortage and restrictions here in Pinehurst, we have provided some useful information and links below to give you a better understanding of the current drought conditions and restrictions.  The Daily Water Usage Chart is updated daily based on information supplied by Moore County Public Utilities. Saturday & Sunday usage amounts are updated in the chart the following Monday. The current water consumption target goal for Pinehurst, given Stage 1 water restrictions, is 3,680,000 gallons per day.

The Village's Conservation Committee has put together some recommendations on how to conserve water.  Residents are encouraged to review these and implement the suggestions, as appropriate.
